The National Immunisation Program (NIP) has expanded eligibility for respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) vaccination, marking an important update for general practice.
Adults aged 75 years and over, as well as Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people aged 60 years and over, are now eligible to receive a free dose of the RSV vaccine Arexvy.
To support implementation in primary care, The National Centre for Immunisation Research and Surveillance (NCIRS) has released an updated RSV immunisation recommendations table, outlining which groups are recommended to receive RSV vaccines or monoclonal antibody (mAB) products.
Additional NCIRS provider-focused resources reflecting the expanded NIP eligibility include:
- RSV frequently asked questions
- Evaluation of and expected access to RSV immunisation products in Australia
- RSV immunisation product efficacy and safety summary (PDF)

For practices using POLAR, a new walkthrough is available to help identify eligible patients and support proactive outreach under the expanded NIP criteria.
