About our program
The Aboriginal Health and Wellbeing Program aims to:
- Identify and act on Aboriginal knowledge of their community needs and how to address them
- Provide care coordination for Aboriginal people living with ongoing conditions, such as diabetes and asthma
- Support access for Aboriginal communities to a range of health services, including primary health, alcohol and other drug treatment, and mental health services
- Contribute to building a health system that provides high-quality, accessible, and culturally safe and appropriate healthcare
- Support communities to access after-hours primary care, cancer screening and childhood immunisation
- Collaborate with government and non-government organisations to continue increasing Aboriginal community control over services and support for their communities
Our program framework is also aligned to wider efforts to close the gap in life expectancy and health outcomes between Aboriginal peoples and non-Indigenous Australians.
