Turn insights into action: A Simple QI activity to increase Indigenous Health Checks (MBS 715) for PIP quarter 3

PIP Quarter 3 kicks off on 1 May, making now the ideal time to put your new EMPHN Indigenous Health Report to work. Use it to identify areas for improvement in your practice and get involved in EMPHN’s latest quality improvement (QI) initiative.

Recent EMPHN GP data reveals there are 16,404 active Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander patients across our region, yet in 2025, just 615 (4%) received an Indigenous Health Check. This low participation rate means many eligible patients may be missing opportunities for timely preventive care, underscoring why it’s crucial to promote and consistently deliver Indigenous Health Checks.

This QI activity is designed to help general practice teams identify Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander patients who are eligible for an Indigenous Health Check (MBS Item 715). Each Indigenous Health Check provides an opportunity to strengthen trust, promote wellbeing, and deliver appropriate preventive care.
