02 November 2026
As of 1 September 2026, medical practitioners and authorised nurse practitioners no longer need specialist hepatitis B s100 prescriber accreditation to prescribe PBS-subsidised hepatitis B antiviral treatment for eligible patients.
Hepatitis B medicines, including first-line antiviral therapies such as entecavir and tenofovir, remain listed under the PBS Section 100 Highly Specialised Drugs Program.
While the accreditation requirement has been removed, the relevant patient and prescriber eligibility criteria under PBS restrictions continue to apply for patients to receive PBS-subsidised treatment.
The change provides an opportunity to improve access to treatment for people living with chronic hepatitis B and support hepatitis B management within primary care and community-based health services.
