As part of Dementia Action Week 2025, the South East Public Health Unit (SEPHU), in collaboration with the South Eastern Melbourne Primary Health Network (SEMPHN), invites primary care professionals to a vital webinar focused on reducing falls in people living with dementia.

Falls are the leading cause of injury-related hospitalisations and deaths in Australia. For people living with dementia, the risk is even more pronounced:

  • They are at least twice as likely to fall as those without dementia.
  • They are 2 to 3 times more likely to experience adverse events such as further falls and delirium during hospitalisation.
  • Following a first hospitalised fall, about 2 in 5 people living with dementia in the community enter residential aged care.
  • 9 in 10 people living with dementia in residential aged care who are hospitalised due to a fall sustain an injury.

These statistics highlight the urgent need for targeted prevention strategies—especially in primary care settings where early intervention can make a significant difference.

Who should attend?

This session is for nurses, general practice staff, allied health or anyone working in primary care.
