Generalist Advanced Shared Palliative care (GASP) and a relaxing chat about Palliative Sedation Therapy.

Join the Banksia Palliative Care experts for the second instalment into the new Generalist Advanced Shared Palliative care (GASP) program.

Palliative Sedation Therapy (PST) is the monitored proportional use of medications intended to reduce consciousness with the aim to relieve refractory suffering in patients with life-limiting disease. It is an essential but often misunderstood intervention. It is not an unintended side-effect of medication, such as from opioids for pain relief. It is not a death hastening intervention.

For everyone living and dying at their place of residence in Victoria, General Practitioners are the main doctors overseeing the person’s medical care with multi-professional support, often in collaboration with specialist community palliative care services such as Banksia. There are some complex scenarios where additional shared-care input from Palliative Medicine Specialists is likely going to be beneficial to enhance ongoing care by the GPs.

Banksia’s new GASP program aims to consolidate on our bi-directional learnings to enhance care in these complex palliative care scenarios. PST is one of them.

Banksia Speakers

  • Dr Bonnie Lui – Palliative Medicine Physician and Geriatrician
  • Dr Chien-Che Lin – Palliative Medicine Specialist
  • Wendy Palmer – Training and Development Co-ordinator

This event is for all health care professionals and is accredited for CPD points.

This event is supported by EMPHN and organised and hosted by Banksia Palliative Care.
