Spotlight on Oonah Aboriginal Health and Community Services

30 May 2025

This week is National Reconciliation Week, and we’re spotlighting the organisations that make up our Aboriginal Consultative Council, a group intended to build trust and strengthen shared decision making and therefore support self-determination within the community.

Today we are spotlighting Oonah Aboriginal Health and Community Services.

Oonah Aboriginal Health and Community Services are committed to providing a welcoming and culturally affirming service to the Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people of Melbourne’s Inner and Outer East. They are a central point of contact for information, services, and programs that are focused on building a healthy and strong Community.

Oonah’s aim is to support a healthy, strong and skilled Community through their core values of: Respect, Caring and Sharing.

Oonah offer a range of on-site services including a weekly Paediatric Clinic, visiting Optometrists, partnering with Hearing Australia to provide specialist ear and hearing health care, Podiatry services, social and emotional wellbeing supports, NDIS support and access and Elder Care.

In addition to this, Oonah has specialised Mental Health Nurses and Counsellors to support community members. Oonah partners with Stepped Care and the Yarra Ranges Mental Health Hub to provide a wrap around holistic service to support you and your family in your mental health journey.

Reconciliation means showing up — really listening, learning, and doing the work together. It’s about truth-telling, respecting culture, and walking alongside one another with honesty and integrity.

It’s not just about what we say, but how we act — in our workplaces, communities, and in our everyday lives.

The work is on-going, but we get to share the journey, together.
