New aged care allied health needs assessment tool: Ageing and Aged Care Engagement Hub

03 June 2025

The Department of Health, Disability and Ageing is seeking feedback from residential aged care providers, workers, residents and allied health professionals on the design of a new allied health needs assessment tool for residential aged care.

The tool aims to help providers to:

  • identify when a resident needs to see an allied health professional i.e. physiotherapist, occupational therapist, dietitian, speech pathologist, podiatrist
  • monitor whether residents’ allied health needs are being met
  • report data on the allied health quality indicator data point ‘percentage of recommended allied health services received’.

Your feedback will help create a tool that:

  • ensures residents receive appropriate allied health care
  • uses best practice in line with up-to-date evidence
  • supports aged care providers to meet quality standards
