19 June 2025

Ahead of the launch of the Australian Government’s National Lung Cancer Screening Program on July 1 2025, Health Pathways Melbourne has published two new pages.

The Lung Cancer Screening page contains information on assessing patient eligibility, referral and management support.

The Lung Cancer Screening Services page contains location-based referral details for private and public radiology services which can provide the low-dose CT scans at the heart of the program. This page will soon be updated with listings for other resources, such as nodule clinics.

The pages are designed to assist clinicians assess patients through measures such as evaluating smoking history and meeting other eligibility criteria.

They also step through the procedures for enrolling patients via the National Cancer Screening Register (NCSR).

Patient-centred support covers smoking cessation, cultural and linguistic barriers, further interventions prompted by scan results, follow-up imaging and managing incidental findings.

HealthPathways Melbourne’s lung cancer screening content has been developed in collaboration with other HealthPathways teams to ensure information is consistent across Australia.
