About the Organisation:
The Victorian Aboriginal Health Service (VAHS) was established in 1973 to address the specific medical needs of Victorian Aboriginal communities. 2023 marked a landmark year as VAHS proudly celebrated its 50-year of providing a comprehensive range of medical, dental, allied health and social services for our community.
As well as providing a variety of medical services, VAHS is committed to supporting the well-being of the community through contributions to community events and activities.

About the Opportunity:
The position is responsible for the provision of holistic Primary Health Care services to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander clients and families as part of a multi-disciplinary team of medical and health staff, within the operational framework of an Aboriginal and Torres Strait islander community-controlled Health Service.
Key Selection Criteria:
• The capability and engagement to understand the philosophy and principles of Aboriginal Community Control and transforming it into practice
• Demonstrated understanding of the health, social and emotional wellbeing needs & ability to work sensitively and effectively with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people
• Demonstrated experience and understanding of trauma informed care
• Ability to perform comprehensive patient assessments, plan, implement, and evaluate clinical care and primary health care strategies, including appropriate investigations, treatment and referrals
• Ability to contribute and motivate an effective team of clinicians and health professionals and others to achieve identified outcomes
• Experience in contributing to “best practice” approaches in clinical practice, clinical polices, systems and procedures
• Demonstrated competence in patient information management systems and other relevant IT
• Good written and verbal communication skills and the ability to communicate effectively with patients, carers and the Aboriginal community
Mandatory Qualifications/Professional Registrations and Licenses:
• General Practice qualifications (FRACGP, FACRRM or equivalent) with Vocational Registration
• Registered with AHPRA
• Current Medicare Provider and prescriber numbers
• RACGP or equivalent QI & CPD triennium training and education requirements
