This interactive online course is designed to help health professionals provide best-practice sexual and reproductive healthcare throughout their patient’s life.

Session one will focus on how to have sexual and reproductive health conversations with young people, including engagement strategies, consent, cultural considerations, and person-centred approaches.

Session two will focus on women in mid-life and beyond, discussing sexual health through perimenopause, menopause, and after illness.

Knowledge will be translated into practice to improve sexual and reproductive health care throughout a patient’s life.

Learning Outcomes: On completion of this course and its components, participants will be able to:

  • Apply person-centred communication strategies to build rapport quickly, take a sexual history, and empower young patients within time-limited consultations.
  • Identify priority topics in young people’s sexual health, consult current clinical guidelines, and be able to find supplementary resources for deeper clinical detail.
  • Explain the physiological changes of perimenopause and menopause and their impact on sexual health and functioning.
  • Use structured, empathetic consultation approaches to open conversations about sexual health with midlife and older women, including how to make adequate time within primary care settings.
  • Discuss sexual health considerations for women after illness, particularly cancer survivorship, covering consent, relationships, STI risk, and safety.

CPD & Endorsement: This activity may be suitable for self-claiming CPD hours with your professional body. A statement of attendance will be provided for full attendees.

Funding: The Sexual and Reproductive Health Through the Lifespan training received funding from the Australian Department of Health, Disability and Ageing.

Target Audience: Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Workers/Practitioners; Doctors; Nurse Practitioners; Nurses & Midwives; Pharmacists
