Sexual Health Victoria, 1800 My Options, the North Eastern Public Health Unit and Women’s Health East are pleased to offer this free information session for GPs, nurses, nurse practitioners, midwives and pharmacists with an interest in early medical abortion (medical termination of pregnancy) service provision.

Introduction to early medical abortion
Pregnancy termination provision is an essential part of comprehensive health care. It ensures that your patients have access to the full spectrum of reproductive services. Early medical abortion is a safe, common and legal medical procedure. Yet less than 10% of GPs in Australia are registered to prescribe medical abortion, and even fewer in primary care.

Hear from expert speakers:

– Dr Kate Robertson, GP and Medical Educator at Sexual Health Victoria
– Larissa Hudson, Senior nurse educator / sexual and reproductive health nurse at Sexual Health Victoria
– 1800 My Options – Victoria’s phone line for contraception, pregnancy options and sexual health information and pathways.

The webinar will provide:
– An understanding of early medical abortion, including the process for prescribing, dispensing and supporting patients through the procedure.
– Hearing from other GPs in how to establish an early medical abortion practice.
– Referral pathways for post-procedure presentations.
– Patient pathways to accessing abortion healthcare (including how to list your practice as a service provider).
– Opportunities for further professional development and training, including the Royal Women’s Hospital Clinical Champions Project e-modules and MSI Australia’s MS-2 Step training.
– Opportunities to have your questions answered by local clinicians.

Learning outcomes:
By the end of this activity, participants will be able to:
– Explain early medical abortion, including the process for prescribing, dispensing and supporting patients through the procedure
– Identify the patient pathways to accessing abortion healthcare (including how to list your practice as a service provider)
– Explain the benefits of providing early medical abortion
