Value for Organisations
Develop the technique to safely collect blood from patients and learn the importance of correctly collecting patient data relevant for clinical documentation. Understand blood collection and how to choose the appropriate equipment with practical demonstration, and discussions around managing possible complications.
The median cubital vein, located in the cubital fossa at the front of the elbow, is the most common site for blood collection. It is close to the skin’s surface and has minimal nerve supply, making it an ideal location for safe venipuncture.
The Perform Blood Collection Course (HLTPAT002) is evidence-based and focuses on teaching best practices for both patient care and clinician safety. This course equips students with the essential knowledge and skills to confirm collection requirements, prepare the client and equipment, and perform routine blood collections in a clinical setting.
Your assessment journey includes theoretical content, diverse assessment questions—ranging from multiple choice to interactive questions and answers—and a practical workplace activity involving the completion of blood collection procedures. There is a mandatory requirement to complete a minimum of 15 different successful blood draws in your workplace or at a facility with which you have a mentoring arrangement.
