SUMMARY:Quality Improvement Activity – Thunderstorm Asthma

All health professionals in primary care and at-risk patients need to be prepared for Thunderstorm Asthma events.  \n\n\n\nIn this session\, attendees will step through a practical guide outlining quality improvement activities to prepare your clinic and patients to respond to Thunderstorm Asthma events.  \n\n\n\nLearning Outcomes: \n\n\n\n\nImplement practice preparedness activities to respond to Thunderstorm Asthma events\n\n\n\nIdentify patients at risk of Thunderstorm Asthma and develop a targeted campaign to increase patient education and awareness\n\n\n\nImplement activities to increase recording of allergy status (Allergic rhinitis) to assist with identification of patients at risk of Thunderstorm Asthma\n\n\n\nIdentify relevant Thunderstorm Asthma HealthPathways\n\n\n\n\nAttendees will be provided with the Thunderstorm Asthma Quality Improvement Activity resources including POLAR walkthroughs and Plan-Do-Study-Act examples.

In a team-based approach\, utilising pharmacy\, practice nurses\, GPs\, and occupational therapy there are numerous interventions which can improve safety\, palatability and efficacy of medication use in dementia. \n\n\n\nIn this webinar you will hear practical tips from expert GP and pharmacist Medical Educators about managing medication in a person living with dementia\, the importance of medication review and the detrimental effects of certain medications on cognition. Our educators will provide an approach to deprescribing in a person living with dementia including the new electronic decision support system tools\, and discuss the benefits and risks of dementia-specific medication. \n\n\n\nSpeakers \n\n\n\nDr Karen Savery \n\n\n\nKaren is a Brisbane based GP who works in clinical practice\, residential aged care and medical education. She is passionate about the education and mentoring of GPs\, particularly in the area of aged care and dementia. She has worked with Dementia Training Australia to increase GP’s confidence in the recognition and management of dementia. \n\n\n\nA/Prof Dr Paul Yates \n\n\n\nMBBS\, FRACP\, PhD- Austin Health \n\n\n\nAssociate Professor Paul Yates is a consultant geriatrician and (acting) director of research a with expertise in dementia and geriatric medicine in hospital and community settings (including residential aged care). \n\n\n\nDr Hilton Koppe\, GP-Dementia Training Australia \n\n\n\nHilton Koppe is a writer\, educator\, podcaster and doctor living on Bundjalung Land on the east coast of Australia. He is a long-standing member of Dementia Training Australia’s GP education team. \n\n\n\nHilton facilitates reflective writing workshops for doctors and other health professionals with the goal of deepening their compassion\, overcoming professional isolation and reducing risk of burnout. The workshops have been adapted for people living with chronic and mental illnesses\, as well as enthusiastic amateur writers. Hilton has been invited to present his workshops all the way from Byron Writers Festival to Harvard Medical School. \n\n\n\nHilton’s book\, One Curious Doctor: A Memoir of Medicine\, Migration and Mortality\, explores the personal impact of working as a country doctor. His play\, Enduring Witness\, is used to facilitate conversations about end-of-life care. Hilton is co-host of Dementia In Practice\, a top 100 Great Australian Pod. \n\n\n\nLearning outcomes: \n\n\n\n\nExplain how some medications can negatively impact cognition.\n\n\n\nOutline the pharmacological tools which may assist in the management of dementia.\n\n\n\nIdentify the special considerations for medication management in people living with dementia.\n\n\n\n\nThis session has been approved for 1 RACGP CPD hour (educational activity).

SUMMARY:Online Initial Assessment and Referral – Decision Support Tool (IAR-DST) Training
DESCRIPTION:Date\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nVenue\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nOrganiser\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nEastern Melbourne Primary Health Network (EMPHN) runs training sessions on the IAR-DST for GPs\, general practice staff\, clinicians and other mental health service providers. \n\n\n\nThe training consists of a two-hour workshop delivered either online with a focus on: \n\n\n\n\nIntroduction to the IAR-DST\n\n\n\nOrientation to the domains\, levels of care and decision support tool\n\n\n\nClinical judgement and supported decision-making\n\n\n\nApplication of the tool in assessment and intake settings (practical activity using a scenario)\n\n\n\n\nThe training is an RACGP CPD Approved Activity for the 2023–2026 triennium. \n\n\n\nEligible GPs who complete the training can claim a once-off payment of $300 (excluding GST).
