A large public health campaign promoting cervical screening, including the option of HPV self-collection, will be released in September this year. An increasing number of patients are expected to present to general practices requesting self-collection, or more information about the test.

In this session, GPs and practice nurses will be provided with the tools to effectively support patients to make an informed choice about this screening method, and to better engage those who are reluctant to screen. Using case-studies and an interactive Q&A format, we will include practical information and tips to ensure practices are on track to eliminate cervical cancer as a public health problem. Also hear from local GP, Dr Dan Jeyaseelan, on how his practice achieved a 90% cervical screening rate.

Speakers:

  • Dr Rebecca Starkie, General Practitioner from Plenty Road Medical Centre Bundoora and Medical Educator, The Australian Centre for the Prevention of Cervical Cancer (ACPCC)
  • Dr Dan Jeyaseelan, General Practitioner from Dr Dan's Medical Clinic Monbulk

Learning outcomes:

  • Compare the options for cervical screening to support your patients to make an informed choice
  • Discuss clinical situations where self-collection can and cannot be offered
  • Apply appropriate guidelines when following up people with positive HPV results
  • Discuss the potential for HPV self-collection to engage those who are under or never screened into the NCSP
  • Identifying patient cohorts for screening and implementing processes to meet practice quality improvement goals
  • Identify relevant HealthPathways
