SUMMARY:Beyond Screening Age: Bowel Cancer Risk in Young Australians
DESCRIPTION:Date\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nVenue\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nOrganiser\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAustralia now reports the highest incidence of colorectal cancer (CRC) in young adults worldwide. This emerging trend has significant implications for general practice\, where younger adults often present with non‑specific gastrointestinal symptoms that may be overlooked or attributed to benign conditions. \n\n\n\nThis presentation will explore the evolving landscape of young‑onset colorectal cancer\, including the current evidence on underlying causes and risk factors—from genetic predisposition to lifestyle influences and environmental exposures. We will examine the unique diagnostic and clinical challenges associated with this age group\, particularly in the context of limited routine screening options and common delays in recognition. \n\n\n\nLearning outcomes: \n\n\n\n1. Describe which patients require a more in depth screening program for bowel cancer \n\n\n\n2. Outline the potential risk factors for colorectal cancer and how these can be modified \n\n\n\nPresented by Epworth Gastroenterologist and Advanced Endoscopist\, Dr Oliver Cronin.

SUMMARY:Diagnostic Challenges and Management of Depression in Older Adults
DESCRIPTION:Date\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nVenue\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nOrganiser\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nDepression is not a normal part of ageing\, yet it affects nearly 50% of residents in aged care and presents frequently in General Practice. This webinar addresses the complexity of diagnosing older patients who often present with somatic complaints or memory concerns rather than sadness.  \n\n\n\nParticipants will learn to differentiate between depression\, delirium\, and dementia—the ‘Three Ds’—using clinical history and evidence-based screening tools like the Geriatric Depression Scale and Confusion Assessment Method. The session further explores management strategies\, including ‘start low\, go slow’ prescribing principles\, bio-psycho-social care planning\, and when to refer to specialist services. The webinar concludes with an interactive Q&A session to discuss specific clinical challenges. \n\n\n\nLearning outcomes:  \n\n\n\n1. Formulate a comprehensive bio-psycho-social management plan for older patients. \n\n\n\n2. Apply appropriate evidence-based screening tools to assess mental state and cognition in older adults. \n\n\n\n3. Differentiate between the clinical features of depression\, delirium\, and dementia (the “Three Ds”) to determine an accurate diagnosis. \n\n\n\nSpeakers: \n\n\n\n\nDr Michelle Baek\, Psychiatrist\n\n\n\nMs Tanya Cottrell\, Manager\, Healthy Ageing Service\n\n\n\nDr Terence Chong\, Psychiatrist

SUMMARY:Diagnostic Challenges and Management of Depression in Older Adults
DESCRIPTION:Date\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nVenue\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nOrganiser\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nDepression is not a normal part of ageing\, yet it affects nearly 50% of residents in aged care and presents frequently in General Practice.¹ This webinar addresses the complexity of diagnosing older patients who often present with somatic complaints or memory concerns rather than sadness.  \n\n\n\nParticipants will learn to differentiate between depression\, delirium\, and dementia—the ‘Three Ds’—using clinical history and evidence-based screening tools like the Geriatric Depression Scale and Confusion Assessment Method. \n\n\n\nThe session further explores management strategies\, including ‘start low\, go slow’ prescribing principles\, bio-psycho-social care planning\, and when to refer to specialist services. The webinar concludes with an interactive Q&A session to discuss specific clinical challenges.

SUMMARY:Innovations in lung function testing and analysis: Differential diagnosis of breathlessness
DESCRIPTION:Date\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nVenue\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nOrganiser\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nBreathlessness is a complex and debilitating symptom affecting up to 1 in 10 Australian adults. A cardinal indicator of numerous respiratory and cardiovascular diseases\, it may also occur due to infection\, poor physical condition\, metabolic or mental health disease. \n\n\n\nDiagnosing breathlessness and its underlying causes is a time-intensive\, often fragmented process which can lead to financial and health system burden\, late or misdiagnosis\, and subsequent delays in treatment. \n\n\n\nDigital innovations are enabling a systematic and evidence-based approach to distinguish breathlessness caused by respiratory conditions from that associated with other co-morbidities. \n\n\n\nHear from our expert panel on the modern landscape of lung imaging technology and the use of CT scans to diagnose and manage lung disease and breathlessness. \n\n\n\nLearning outcomes \n\n\n\n1. Describe evidence-based approaches to identifying and assessing breathlessness in clinical practice \n\n\n\n2. Identify the available technology to support identification of structural and functional deficiencies in the lungs\, enabling differential diagnosis of breathlessness \n\n\n\n3. Discuss the available technology which supports ongoing monitoring and management of respiratory conditions and breathlessness
