SUMMARY:Beyond Screening Age: Bowel Cancer Risk in Young Australians
DESCRIPTION:Date\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nVenue\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nOrganiser\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAustralia now reports the highest incidence of colorectal cancer (CRC) in young adults worldwide. This emerging trend has significant implications for general practice\, where younger adults often present with non‑specific gastrointestinal symptoms that may be overlooked or attributed to benign conditions. \n\n\n\nThis presentation will explore the evolving landscape of young‑onset colorectal cancer\, including the current evidence on underlying causes and risk factors—from genetic predisposition to lifestyle influences and environmental exposures. We will examine the unique diagnostic and clinical challenges associated with this age group\, particularly in the context of limited routine screening options and common delays in recognition. \n\n\n\nLearning outcomes: \n\n\n\n1. Describe which patients require a more in depth screening program for bowel cancer \n\n\n\n2. Outline the potential risk factors for colorectal cancer and how these can be modified \n\n\n\nPresented by Epworth Gastroenterologist and Advanced Endoscopist\, Dr Oliver Cronin.

SUMMARY:Innovations in lung function testing and analysis: Differential diagnosis of breathlessness
DESCRIPTION:Date\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nVenue\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nOrganiser\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nBreathlessness is a complex and debilitating symptom affecting up to 1 in 10 Australian adults. A cardinal indicator of numerous respiratory and cardiovascular diseases\, it may also occur due to infection\, poor physical condition\, metabolic or mental health disease. \n\n\n\nDiagnosing breathlessness and its underlying causes is a time-intensive\, often fragmented process which can lead to financial and health system burden\, late or misdiagnosis\, and subsequent delays in treatment. \n\n\n\nDigital innovations are enabling a systematic and evidence-based approach to distinguish breathlessness caused by respiratory conditions from that associated with other co-morbidities. \n\n\n\nHear from our expert panel on the modern landscape of lung imaging technology and the use of CT scans to diagnose and manage lung disease and breathlessness. \n\n\n\nLearning outcomes \n\n\n\n1. Describe evidence-based approaches to identifying and assessing breathlessness in clinical practice \n\n\n\n2. Identify the available technology to support identification of structural and functional deficiencies in the lungs\, enabling differential diagnosis of breathlessness \n\n\n\n3. Discuss the available technology which supports ongoing monitoring and management of respiratory conditions and breathlessness
