SUMMARY:Diabetes in Primary Care: A Practical Webinar Series for GPs
DESCRIPTION:Date\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nVenue\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nOrganiser\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nDeveloped in partnership between the Alfred Care Group\, Bayside Health\, and the South Eastern Melbourne Primary Health Network (SEMPHN)\, and supported by the National Association of Diabetes Centres (NADC) a division of the Australian Diabetes Society (ADS)\, the series provides practical\, case based education aligned with Australian guidelines and the realities of general practice. Originally developed for the SEMPHN region\, the series is now open to health professionals across Victoria. \n\n\n\nAcross the 10 part series\, experienced endocrinologists and multidisciplinary experts will cover the full spectrum of type 2 diabetes management—from early detection and lifestyle intervention to complex pharmacotherapy\, technology\, and prevention and management of complications including cardiovascular disease\, kidney disease\, foot disease\, frailty and atypical diabetes. \n\n\n\nWhat to expect\n\n\n\n\nEvidence based\, GP focused education\n\n\n\nPractical guidance on medications\, insulin\, and diabetes technology\n\n\n\nIntegrated care approaches linking primary and tertiary services\n\n\n\nCase discussions with endocrinologists\, GPs\, diabetes educators and allied health professionals\n\n\n\nSessions aligned to RACGP curriculum and CPD requirements\n\n\n\n\nThis series forms part of SEMPHN’s and Bayside Health’s Connecting Care for Complex Chronic Disease (4CD) initiative and aims to strengthen collaboration\, improve patient outcomes\, and build sustainable diabetes care pathways. \n\n\n\nAll sessions will be recorded. This session will provide a practical update on the GP’s role in the fourth trimester\, including monitoring physical recovery after birth\, management of hypertension and pre-eclampsia\, diabetes prevention following gestational diabetes\, breastfeeding challenges\, and pelvic floor rehabilitation. Attendees will gain evidence-based strategies to support women in the weeks and months after childbirth\, promote recovery\, identify red flags\, and optimise long-term health outcomes. \n\n\n\nLearning outcomes:\n\n\n\n\nOutline the GP’s role in supporting maternal physical recovery during the fourth trimester.\n\n\n\nExplain current evidence and importance of postpartum blood pressure surveillance and early identification of pre eclampsia complications.\n\n\n\nDescribe how to apply an integrated postpartum care framework that supports maternal wellbeing\, optimises chronic disease risk reduction\, offers breastfeeding support and ensures safe follow up for women with complex pregnancies. After graduating from the University of Western Australia in 2001\, he commenced work in occupational medicine and later completed a Graduate Diploma in Occupational and Environmental Medicine at Monash University. Throughout his career\, he has worked in occupational and industrial medical clinics across Victoria\, managing WorkCover patients. His principal areas of practice include work-related injury management\, return to work\, fitness for duty assessments\, and independent medical examinations. He has been a Medical Advisor to the Victorian WorkCover Authority since 2007 and has also advised a range of major organisations.In 2012\, Dr Salimi was a finalist for the WorkSafe Victoria Return to Work Award in the Medical Practitioner category. He has delivered educational presentations to general practitioners on occupational medicine and return to work as part of the RACGP continuing professional development program. Dr Salimi also prepares independent medicolegal reports and conducts fitness for duty assessments. MBBS (UWA)\, Grad Dip Occ Env Med (Monash)\, BMedSci (Hons)\n\n\n\n\n\nDr Ann Boonzaier (Clinical Psychologist)Clinical Advisor at Clinical Panel\, WorkSafe VictoriaDr Boonzaier is a clinical psychologist with more than 20 years’ experience working across public mental health\, hospitals\, specialist clinics\, and private practice. I have a special interest in the psychological impact of chronic pain\, trauma\, psychological injury\, and chronic illness. My clinical work focuses on translating psychological research into practical strategies that support small\, sustainable changes with lasting impact on wellbeing and clinical outcomes. I have been with the WorkSafe Clinical Panel since 2022 and am an Accredited EMDR Practitioner\, an AHPRA approved Clinical Psychology Supervisor\, and a member of APS\, ACPA\, EMDRAA and APMA.\n\n\n\n\n\nAnjelo RatnachandraAPA titled Pain Physiotherapist and Director\, Beyond PainAnjelo has worked in chronic illness management for nearly two decades. Aside from his clinical experience\, he has also worked in Occupational Rehabilitation and consults with corporations and government organisations on injury prevention and early intervention. His self-guiding book\, Beyond Pain\, offers practical strategies for living well despite persistent symptoms.
