Dr Ratner is a passionate advocate for women’s health and believe in empowering and supporting women to make informed decisions about their own health. \n\n\n\nLearning outcomes\n\n\n\n\nApply current evidence to the diagnosis and management of endometriosis and adenomyosis in primary care\, including when to initiate hormonal therapy and when to refer. \n\n\n\nIdentify and confidently address common patient-facing myths and social media misinformation about endometriosis during clinical consultations. \n\n\n\nExplain why hormonal therapy is the preferred first-line approach for superficial peritoneal endometriosis\, and understand the limitations of surgical treatment in this context.

His clinical interests include oesophageal and gastric cancer\, bariatric surgery\, hiatal hernias and gastro-oesophageal reflux\, and abdominal wall and groin hernia surgery. \n\n\n\nMr Stokes completed general surgical training through Alfred Health\, obtaining FRACS in 2021\, followed by three years of subspecialty training through the highly competitive AANZGOSA post-fellowship program. He undertook further training at Princess Alexandra Hospital\, Brisbane\, gaining extensive experience in minimally invasive surgery for gastro-oesophageal reflux\, hiatal hernia\, and oesophageal and gastric cancer. Mr Stokes then completed a high-volume oesophago-gastric cancer fellowship at the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh\, Scotland\, refining skills in complex cancer surgery. \n\n\n\nMr Stokes hold public appointments at The Alfred and Peninsula Health. Privately\, he consult in Malvern\, Frankston and Gippsland as part of South East Upper GI Surgical Group and operate at Cabrini Malvern.

DESCRIPTION:Date\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nVenue\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nOrganiser\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nJoin Banksia Palliative Care experts for the third instalment of the Generalist Advanced Shared Palliative Care (GASP) program. \n\n\n\nThis session will focus on bleeding in palliative care\, including ongoing or recurrent bleeding and preparation for catastrophic terminal events. \n\n\n\nSignificant visible bleeding in a person living with incurable conditions can be highly distressing for patients\, families\, carers and responding health professionals. While catastrophic terminal events are uncommon\, they can be potentially predictable and require thoughtful preparation. \n\n\n\nOngoing or recurrent bleeding can also occur in people with advanced illness and may be further complicated by anticoagulation\, DVT prophylaxis and other prescribing considerations. \n\n\n\nThrough the GASP program\, Banksia Palliative Care aims to strengthen shared care between GPs\, palliative medicine specialists and local community palliative care services\, supporting better outcomes in complex palliative care scenarios. \n\n\n\nLearning outcomes\n\n\n\n\nDemonstrate quality and appropriate deprescribing in palliative care.\n\n\n\nDemonstrate management of ongoing and/or recurrent bleeding in palliative care.\n\n\n\nIdentify additional preparation for management of catastrophic terminal events in a patient’s home.\n\n\n\nDevelop professional connection with local Community Palliative Care service.\n\n\n\n\nA sushi dinner is included in the program\, so please specify dietary requirements within booking. \n\n\n\nPlease contact the Learning Centre Team on learningcentre@banksiapalliative.com.au or 9455 0822 for more information. \n\n\n\nCPD accreditation approved\n\n\n\nThis activity attracts up to 3.5 CPD hours\, comprising 2 hours Educational Activities (EA) and 1.5 hours Reviewing Performance (RP). Dr Wang is a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons and hold public appointments at Monash and Eastern Health. \n\n\n\nDr Wang manages a wide range of vascular conditions including peripheral arterial disease\, aneurysmal disease\, carotid artery disease\, and dialysis access\, as well as venous disease\, including varicose veins and chronic venous insufficiency.
