Nearly 30 per cent of Australians living with chronic hepatitis B remain undiagnosed\, and therefore at heightened risk of liver failure and cancer. This session will equip your team with practical approaches to enhance early detection and improve patient outcomes. \n\n\n\nThe session will be presented by three experts in the field: viral hepatitis educator Mieken Grant; hepatitis B s100 prescriber Dr Natalia Rode; and practice nurse Tanya Hounslow. \n\n\n\nThey will guide you through the steps of developing a quality improvement plan\, show you tips and tricks for searching your clinic’s patient database\, and suggest implementable strategies to enhance the care you provide your patients who are living with hepatitis B or may be at risk. \n\n\n\nSpeakers \n\n\n\nMieken Grant is a viral hepatitis educator\, a statewide role funded by the Victorian Department of Health. She educates health professionals about hepatitis B and C\, and supports them in delivering best practice viral hepatitis prevention\, testing\, treatment and care.  \n\n\n\nMieken is a Registered Nurse with extensive experience in public health\, concentrating mainly on sexual health and blood-borne viruses. She is passionate about improving the health of marginalised communities. She has worked in public hospitals and sexual health centres\, as well as in community and remote settings\, supporting clients with complex social and medical care needs. Mieken also has experience in policy review\, research\, education\, partner notification and contact tracing. \n\n\n\nDr Natalia Rode is a GP\, researcher and medical educator. She is passionate about quality improvement in general practice. As a hepatitis B s100 prescriber\, she is particularly interested in improving care for people living with this condition. \n\n\n\nTanya Hounslow is a practice nurse at Northside Clinic\, dedicated to making a real difference in patient care through quality improvement activities. Join NWMPHN and QIP consulting in a session that explores the most common areas of non-compliance identified during RACGP accreditation assessments and provides practical strategies for avoiding them. Participants will leave with actionable tips and tools to strengthen their practice’s quality\, safety\, and compliance processes. \n\n\n\nAccreditation is a critical process that drives safety\, quality\, and continuous improvement in general practice. However\, a small number of indicators are consistently associated with non-compliance findings. In this session\, we will examine the top areas where practices most frequently encounter challenges during RACGP 5th Edition accreditation\, based on national trends and on-the-ground consulting experience. \n\n\n\nParticipants will gain insights into common pitfalls across clinical governance\, human resources\, infection control\, incident management\, feedback systems\, cold chain management and risk management. We will provide practical examples\, templates\, and tips that can be directly applied to everyday practice operations to minimise risk and maximise compliance. \n\n\n\nThe session will also cover real-world solutions for common challenges\, such as maintaining current health summaries\, managing cold chain processes\, documenting performance discussions\, ensuring CPR and immunisation requirements are met\, and building a strong internal risk culture. Participants will leave the session better equipped to strengthen systems\, evidence their compliance\, and foster a culture of continuous quality improvement across their teams. \n\n\n\nSpeaker: \n\n\n\nRiley O’Hanlon has extensive experience in the comprehension\, application\, and compliance of health care standards and associated guidelines. She previously served as Australian General Practice Accreditation Limited’s client liaison officer for New South Wales and the Australian Capital Territory. She supported services across a broad range of accreditation topics including clinical governance\, infection control\, human resource management\, safety and quality\, risk management\, and cold chain management. \n\n\n\nAs the national manager of QIP Consulting\, Riley specialises in the development of standards\, resources\, templates\, and bespoke documentation\, and conducts gap assessments for health care organisations across Australia.  \n\n\n\nShe has played key roles in the development and review of several national standards frameworks\, corporate quality frameworks\, and pilot studies\, and is passionate about supporting services to embed continuous improvement practices. \n\n\n\nWith a background in the medical industry\, Riley also holds a personal interest in mental health\, multiculturalism\, domestic violence\, and suicide prevention. She is dedicated to supporting and strengthening the role of primary health care nurses through workforce development and education. Sara holds a Grad Cert in Infection Prevention and Control through Griffith University and is a member of the RACGP Technical Working Group -infection prevention and control\, participating in the most recent review of the IPC guidelines for general practices and other office-based and community-based practices. \n\n\n\nDeborah Kerz is a highly experienced Registered Nurse and Diabetes Educator with over 30 years of service across both public and private health sectors.
