Nearly 30 per cent of Australians living with chronic hepatitis B remain undiagnosed\, and therefore at heightened risk of liver failure and cancer. This session will equip your team with practical approaches to enhance early detection and improve patient outcomes. \n\n\n\nThe session will be presented by three experts in the field: viral hepatitis educator Mieken Grant; hepatitis B s100 prescriber Dr Natalia Rode; and practice nurse Tanya Hounslow. \n\n\n\nThey will guide you through the steps of developing a quality improvement plan\, show you tips and tricks for searching your clinic’s patient database\, and suggest implementable strategies to enhance the care you provide your patients who are living with hepatitis B or may be at risk. \n\n\n\nSpeakers \n\n\n\nMieken Grant is a viral hepatitis educator\, a statewide role funded by the Victorian Department of Health. She educates health professionals about hepatitis B and C\, and supports them in delivering best practice viral hepatitis prevention\, testing\, treatment and care.  \n\n\n\nMieken is a Registered Nurse with extensive experience in public health\, concentrating mainly on sexual health and blood-borne viruses. She is passionate about improving the health of marginalised communities. She has worked in public hospitals and sexual health centres\, as well as in community and remote settings\, supporting clients with complex social and medical care needs. Mieken also has experience in policy review\, research\, education\, partner notification and contact tracing. \n\n\n\nDr Natalia Rode is a GP\, researcher and medical educator. She is passionate about quality improvement in general practice. As a hepatitis B s100 prescriber\, she is particularly interested in improving care for people living with this condition. \n\n\n\nTanya Hounslow is a practice nurse at Northside Clinic\, dedicated to making a real difference in patient care through quality improvement activities. With over 10 years’ experience\, she loves working collaboratively to help general practice thrive.  \n\n\n\nLearning outcomes:\n\n\n\n\nEvaluate patient data using clinical tools to identify individuals at risk of hepatitis B who haven’t been screened \n\n\n\nDescribe why detecting hepatitis B early is key to addressing growing rates of liver cirrhosis and liver cancer in Victoria.\n\n\n\nExplain the best practice testing method for hepatitis B.
